Tomato sandwiches with Vegan Mayo by Chris Pavesic

Image
by Chris Pavesic Readers of the Revelation Chronicles know that my main characters love tomato sandwiches. To make them special, I have included a recipe for Vegan Mayonnaise. You only need four ingredients to make this dressing and it is ready in just 2 minutes! You also only need four ingredients to assemble your tasty lunch: homemade bread, sliced garden tomatoes, lettuce, and mayonnaise. Vegan Mayo 1 cup avocado oil  ½ cup unsweetened plant-based milk  2 tsps. apple cider vinegar (or key lime juice)  Sea salt to taste The oil and the plant-based milk should be at the same temperature. It is easier to blend. If you use an immersion blender: combine all the ingredients in bowl. Place the immersion blender so it sits firmly on the bottom of the bowl. Pulse until the mayonnaise emulsifies. Once most of the mayo has emulsified, move the blender up and down to incorporate any oil that is sitting on the top. If you use a regular blender: place all ...

EASY SWEETs from Chris Pavesic

Image
EASY SWEET from Chris Pavesic  These treats mirror the taste of a mass-produced candy bar while at the same time being made with simple ingredients. My family likes a bittersweet chocolate with a high amount of cacao, but you can use whatever type of chocolate you like the best. These pair exceptionally well with a dish of homemade vanilla ice cream. Chocolate Coconut Squares 6 oz. sweetened condensed milk 1 tbsp. vanilla 1/8 tsp. salt 2 cups powdered sugar 14 oz. sweetened shredded coconut 16 oz. bittersweet chocolate (1 bag of chocolate chips can be substituted.) 2 tbsp. melted butter Extra butter to coat aluminum foil Line an 8x8 straight edged pan with aluminum foil, overlapping the edges, and lightly coat with butter. Combine condensed milk, vanilla, and salt in a medium-sized bowl. Stir in powdered sugar (1 cup at a time) until you have a smooth mixture. Add coconut and mix until thoroughly coated and combined. Pour mixture into the prepared pan ...

COVER REVEAL for NEW STEAMPUNK  Coming March 5 from Chris Pavesic , the author of Starter Zone: The Revelation Chronicles , the first book in a new steampunk mystery series. Looks like another best seller for this fine author. But you be the judge. With only the help of a traveling group of minstrels and a retired fae investigator, Catherine must solve the mystery before more people are killed.  So saddle up your clockwork mount, buckle on your electro-dagger, and join Catherine as she finds herself pitted against members of her own Temple, rogue members of the Seelie Court, and a seemingly unstoppable army of undead.  In Chiaroscuro it’s important to keep the faith. Services were scheduled to commence in an hour, and Ernest needed to be ready. He stru...

Chocolate Chip Chocolate Cookies by Chris Pavesic

Image
by Chris Pavesic This is a new family favorite. I made these in place of my traditional Christmas Cookies last year, and have requests to make them for all upcoming holidays. For New Years I made an extra batch to store in the freezer for any time an unexpected guest visits, and they lasted about a day. Chocolate Chip Chocolate Cookies ½ cup unsweetened baker’s chocolate powder  ¾ cup granulated sugar ¾ cup packed brown sugar 1 cup butter (plus an additional amount for coating the baking tray) 1 tbsp. vanilla 1 egg 2 ¼ cup all purpose flour (plus an additional amount for coating the baking tray) 1 tsp. baking soda ½ tsp. sea salt 1 package (12 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips ¼ package raw pecan halves ½ cup (approximate) coarse sugar or sanding sugar  Preheat oven to 375° F. Prepare the baking sheet by coating the surface with butter and then dusting with flour. This will help ensure the cookies do not stick. Prepare the plate. Sprinkle the coarse or ...

150 Years of ALICE by Chris Pavesic

150 Years of ALICE by Chris Pavesic Liddell & Boyd (Alice in the looking glass works)_by Karl Beutel 2011 2015 marks the 150th Publication Anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland . The story itself originates in 1862 when a girl named Alice Liddell and her two sisters rowed from Folly Bridge, Oxford, to Godstow with Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson) and his clerical friend, Robinson Duckworth. During this journey the girls were told the first version of the story to keep them entertained. Later the work was expanded and published in the version we now know and love. Alice by Arthur Rackham 1907 Bridgeman Art Library For me, the character of Alice has always been a remarkable one in childhood literature. She displays an inner strength in every situation, no matter how bizarre it may be (and in Wonderland the situations are never normal!). In an interview for ScreenCrave, Tim Burton explains his attraction to the character of Alice: It’s a story about so...
