Get to Know Kerri Nelson
I am thrilled to welcome Kerri Nelson who is stopping today along her blog hop. Personally I can't wait to read Kerri's new book and Her cover I just adore. Here is the blurb and get to know Kerri a little more a story I think that will make you think :)
October Last Year
Do you ever do that thing where you stop and wonder…what was I doing this time last year?
I probably do this quite often because I’m one of those people sort of addicted to remembering my milestones both good and bad.
Unfortunately, this time last year was a rough time for me. I’d just undergone my first mammogram and had received scary news that “they found something”. The same day I’d attended this traumatic event, they’d performed a needle biopsy and I went through all of this alone and feeling quite exposed.
In the end, the results were good and I hope they continue to stay that way from here on out, but it was a scary fall season for me which had nothing to do with Halloween, ghosts, goblins or demons.
But something kind of fun happened after this event, I came up with a new charity called “Books for Boobs” and this was an event that helped me raise several hundred dollars (matched by my husband’s employer) for Breast Cancer Research.
This year I’m going to do the same event and I’m going to host it through my Between the Scenes: Authors Helping Others charity blog located here:
Some of you may recall that I held a Tornado relief fundraiser here earlier this year that was a huge success and helped out a lot of folks down here in the storm ravaged southeast. I thank you for that.
But this charity is different. This time, I auction off, via E-bay tons of books that are put together in groups. Typically between 9 and 12 books per lot. Some are autographed collectibles, most all are brand new and never read, and a few are gently used. This allows me to clean out my enormous collection of books that are weighing down my office and to help raise money for a worthy cause—our boob health!
I’ll begin listing the books for sale on E-bay next Monday (October 17th) and more details will be available on my charity blog at that time. I hope you’ll make a note to check out the lots and bid. And if you’re an author and would like to donate a book for the cause, please contact me for more details.
But this week, I’d like to ask each of you…what were you doing last October? Was it a good time, a bad time or were you simply keeping your head above water?
In my book, Courting Demons, if Paisley makes it to October it will be a miracle!
Thanks for hosting today, Dominique. Hope everyone has a wonderful, spookily delightful October 2011!
Blurb:
Paisley Barton was already having a bad day before she turned her husband into a rat.
First, she was fired by her boss and then came home to find hubby in the shower with a naked blonde chick. They say that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned but this break-up may just unleash hell on Earth when Paisley casts a spell of vengeance against her philandering husband.
After her spell casting inadvertently opens a portal between dimensions, Paisley finds her family home transformed into a nightly courtroom for settling disputes between demons of the underworld and she’s the judge! If that’s not enough, she’s got to deal with a charming, ancient demon named Camden who wants to be her personal bodyguard while trying to explain her husband’s sudden, mysterious disappearance to sexy police Detective Dalton Briggs.
But Paisley will show them all that an everyday working mom is better equipped than most to deal with the mystical mayhem…and with a tempting demon hottie and a flirtatious young detective vying for her affection, she soon learns that being single again isn’t so bad after all.

Wow! I'm am so happy for you that your "scare" after your mammogram turned out well. In 2006, mine did not, however if one had to choose which cancer to have, the doctors told me, then you'd have wanted mine: Ductal Cancinoma In Situ, Stage 0. I didn't have to do anything BUT have a mastectomy but no radiation or chemo or drugs. I'm 5 years out and all is well. I would love to contribute a book to your charity. I have many that i've purchased through Amazon and in good shape though not "new" since I've read them. Is that alright?
ReplyDeletePatti
@Patti~Awe. I'm so sorry to hear about that news. Bless your heart. I know how terrified I was that day and I simply cannot imagine what you've gone through. Thanks for sharing your story with us.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, on the book donation. Will add you to my list of donors and I'll be in touch later in the week with details.
Big hugs,
K.
Glad that your 'scare' turned out okay. Have had that same scare myself and for me it also turned out okay so I know the feeling very well. A very worthwhile charity that you are helping!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your scare turned out well too. Had a similar scare the previous summer, but it wasn't the first mammogram. Still unnerving!
ReplyDeleteExcellent charity idea! I'll be there and will spread the word!
Rebecca
@Jean~Oh my! Glad your scare turned less scary as well. Yep, I'm getting revved up for another successful October for fundraising. Thanks for any and all support (bra pun intended).
ReplyDelete@Rebecca~I know you'll be there and I'm so honored that I can count on you, my friend. Big girlie hugs, K.
***WINNER***
ReplyDeleteToday's prize is...A Choice of e-books from my back list!
And my 1 year old (who has been a very sick little boy) has been presented with 3 names on 3 sheets of paper. Let's see who he chooses...
Hmmm...right now he's just rubbing his buttered toast on his arm. Not helpful.
Now he's drawing on his arm with and ink pen that my "helpful" 3 year old has given him to color on the paper with.
Now he's yelling at top volume because I've confiscated the pen.
Wait...he's studying the slips of paper carefully.
He's drooling on them...
He's picking one up...
And the winner is...
PATRICIA!!
That was an amazing victory indeed. Oops...now he's throwing the toast off his booster seat tray. Better go.
CONGRATS to the winner!
Thanks to Dominique for hosting me on her brand spanking (no pun intended) new blog!
Hugs to all,
Kerri
